HEPA, or High Efficiency Particulate Air, filters are able to remove up to 99.97% of particles that are .3 micrometers in diameter. This is the most difficult size of particle to filter and often penetrates most other types of air filtration systems. Particles that are smaller or larger than .3 microns are also efficiently removed with a HEPA filter.
While there are many variations of HEPA filters, only True HEPA filters are able to remove 99.97% of particles, .3 microns in diameter. True HEPA filters must pass a test and will be marked with a serial number to display the True HEPA quality standard.
HEPA and Vacuum Cleaners
