Prevention is Key
The best way to keep carpets and floors clean is through prevention. Use an entrance or welcome mat before guests enter your home to remove dirt and debris from shoes. These mats need to be cleaned out frequently so as not to redistribute soil. Also have guests remove shoes when walking on carpeted floor areas. 80% of the soils that enter your home are dry and can be removed with a vacuum. Be sure to vacuum regularly and properly, changing bags frequently and keeping filters clean. Run the vacuum in several different directions to pick up the maximum amount of dirt and debris. Also be sure to sweep hard floor surfaces. The remaining 20% of soils that enter your home are oils greases and starches. These can be treated and removed with regular deep cleaning using a shampoo cleaner. Stain Removal
- For liquid stains, always blot with an absorbent cloth. Be sure to apply pressure to soak up as much of the stain from the fibers as possible.

- Always use mild cleaning solutions to keep carpet from wearing down, use stronger chemical solutions only when necessary for difficult stains.
If you don't have any stain removal products in your home, you can use a mixture of water and vinegar to remove stains and odors from carpet. For tricky mold and mildew stains, you can use non-chlorine bleach or a combination of lemon juice and salt water.
